(WFXR) — In anticipation of the mix of snow and rain showers officials throughout central and southwest Virginia are taking precautions.

In Lynchburg, the Public Works Department is prepared and will have crews working throughout the night with spreader operations conducted as needed. The department is asking that people stay off the roads.

Crews will also be out on Friday, Jan. 21 for trash collection. This collection service is from Monday and they will also be on streets that have been inaccessible because of the icy conditions this week.

If the weather doesn’t cooperate, crews will collect trash on Saturday and next week. They are asking residents to put their trash on the curb on their scheduled day and leave it until it’s been collected.

In Danville, the Public Works Department will have crews out throughout the evening and overnight to monitor the road conditions. They will respond as needed as the rain changes to snow.

If anyone needs shelter as temperatures fall below freezing overnight, they should call the City of Danville non-emergency at 434-799-5111, and then press option 8.
