Sunny skies today, rain tomorrow

Plenty of sunshine today, rain likely Thursday

Enjoy the sunshine today as the rain is slated to return on Thursday and there will be a period of off and on rainy weather through the weekend.  Nothing close to a washout this weekend, but it will be a weekend where we need to keep the rain gear handy.  Let’s enjoy the quiet pattern today.

Sunshine and breezy will be the order of the day as high pressure keeps the region dry as well as mild. Normal high temperatures for today are in the 70° range and although we will be a little bit short of that mark, but not by much.  Don’t get to used to the sunshine unfortunately because the rain is on the way back Thursday.

Another intense line of storms will move through the southern states of Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina Thursday and the shield of rain will extend into the Commonwealth.  Virginia will see mainly rain with a slight chance of an isolated thunderstorm in our SE counties, but for the most part we will see just steady and soaking rain. All this is beneficial for our crops and newly budding plants as it is spring and we need to keep the lawns watered.

Friday, I expect most of the rain to be clear of the region but a few computer models are in line with keeping the rain around into the mid-day time frame.  The rain Friday will be spottier if it does linger and we will be able to get some dry air in late in the day.

Saturday will bring another chance for rain, off and on, as the next in a line of wet weather makers moves through the area.  There could be a few thunderstorms with this line as it pushes through in the afternoon so keep an eye to the sky if you are out camping or hiking this Saturday. Sunday may be dry but, once again, the difference in the computer forecasting models disagree.  For now, I am going to say we should see a dry and breezy day with temperatures much cooler than normal by about 10 degrees.

Stay Safe and healthy.
