Summertime heat and humidity linger.

Summer heat and humidity linger through the rest of the week and the weekend!

High pressure remains the dominating force in our weather over the next couple of days. The heat and humidity will linger through the week and begin to build in spots, especially the humidity levels which will in turn make it feel hotter than air temperatures reflect with highs well into the 80s and low 90s all the way into the weekend. We’ll have quite a few dry days this week with just a minute chance for an isolated shower or thunderstorm to fire up in the heat of the day, mainly in the mountains, but with high pressure in place and an upper level ridge in place across the eastern half of the country most days it will be very hard for showers to break the cap.  A weak backdoor cold front will sag toward northern Virginia tomorrow with a slight uptick in the amount of thunderstorm activity we see around the region but the showers and storms will still be isolated to scattered in nature. The next chance for more widespread showers looks to be another front moving thru the region later in the weekend and into next week.

It’s that time of year that I need to remind folks to please, NEVER leave your kids or pets in the car. The interior of your car will heat up extremely quickly and reach dangerous, if not deadly, levels in a very short period of time. If you want to take the dog for a car ride than make it a dedicated ride for them, don’t stop for groceries or to pick something up. It only takes a few minutes for the temperature in your vehicle to reach those dangerous levels. If you have a small child be sure you double check the back seat when you get out.
