Pinpoint Weather: Winds relax tonight but the cold air remains, rain returns Saturday

Weather Blog

The cold pool of air that provided us with the sub-freezing temperatures last night will be present once again tonight. The winds will not be much of a factor tonight, but that means that we may see the development of some frost.

The National Weather Service has placed the viewing area under another Freeze Warning tonight so we need to take the appropriate precautions.  The Freeze Warning is issues when it appears that the temps will be below freezing for a period of time that will be detrimental to some crops and tender vegetation. Make sure to protect your plants and prepare for the cold air.

The winds will be much less tonight but there are still some windy conditions into the evening. There is an increase in Fire Danger today as the ground fuel is dry, the air is dry and the winds are robust. Please take care of anything that may ignite a fire as the flames could spread quickly.

Tonight will be another cold night but without the wind it may not feel as bad as last night. There may be a bit cooler air in place and without the wind some pockets of frost may form.  May not need the ice scraper for your windshield Friday morning but you may notice some ice crystals on the grass.

Friday will be sunny and a bit milder as the sun will be allowed to do the job intended…heat the earth.  Highs will be several degrees warmer than Thursday the past few days, but still below where we should be for late April. Highs will top out in the middle 60s. Overnight temps should be back to normal into Saturday.

Saturday looks to be wet and chilly.  An area of low pressure will cross the Mid-Atlantic region during the day and provide us with rain. The rain may be heavy at times and there may be a rumble or two of thunder, but at the moment there only seems to be rain in the offing, not severe storms. That is subject to change as the intensity of the event may adjust higher, but at this moment it looks like the stronger elements of this complex will stay south. As for the temperatures in the Commonwealth for Saturday, we should see them on the chilly side once again.  Highs will be in the mid to upper 50s and some low 60s.

Sunday will be milder but there is going to be a bit of a breeze once more as the storm exits. There may be some rain lingering in the morning of Sunday, but overall, Sunday should be a nice day.

Then, a warming and dry pattern arrives next week.
