The bulk of the moisture has exited the region and we can now start to clean up; however, some additional pockets of wintry mix will still be likely across the region into tonight and also through the day on Monday, but again, that should be light.

The majority of the winter weather alerts have been canceled. The only exceptions are for Highland County where a Winter Storm Warning is set to expire at 12 a.m. Monday for some heavy mixed precipitation. Then, a Winter Weather Advisory continues until 10 p.m. tonight for Pocahontas, western Greenbrier and Summers Counties where up to one inch of additional snowfall as well as a light glaze of ice can still be expected.

Regarding snowfall totals, we’ve had several reports around a half-foot across the region with man areas seemingly getting between 4-7.” Below are some of the higher totals across the region.

As mentioned, we can expect pockets of snow, sleet and freezing rain to continue, even now that the bulk of the moisture has exited. Whatever does fall will be on the lighter side, but will still create a nuisance from the afternoon hours into the overnight and continuing into Monday.

Anything that does accumulate should be on the lighter side.

One thing to keep in mind, is that temperatures are not going to climb much through the afternoon, so while we can expect some melting, there won’t be much and what does melt will have a tendency to re-freeze as temperatures drop a few degrees below freezing across the region tonight.

We’ll keep things a bit chilly into the first part of the week, but by Wednesday, we can expect a gradual warmup – possibly flirting with 50 degrees heading toward the end of the upcoming workweek.

If you do plan to venture out, be sure clean off your car FULLY which includes all windows, the hood, the trunk AND the roof. Snow can fly off your car and potentially into a driver behind you.

And as always, don’t crowd the plow. Leave plenty of room between you and road crews (and other drivers as a general rule during adverse driving conditions).
