ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — June 1st marks the beginning of the Atlantic hurricane season, as well as the start of meteorological summer. It will definitely feel summer-like in Southwest and Central Virginia for the end of the week.

Some patchy fog is possible Thursday morning with temperatures starting in the comfortable 50s. By the afternoon, high temperatures will be in the 70s and lower 80s under partly to mostly sunny skies. Much of the region will stay dry, but a few isolated showers cannot be ruled out.

The warming pattern will continue into Friday as an area of high pressure influences the forecast. It will be mostly sunny with warmer-than-average afternoon temperatures in the 80s. Make sure to stay hydrated if you’re working outside!

Saturday will start dry and quiet with very warm afternoon highs in the 80s. A backdoor cold front will pass through Southwest and Central Virginia late in the day, bringing isolated showers and thunderstorms to the region.

Cooler air will filter in behind the passing cold front, so Sunday won’t be as warm. Expect high temperatures to reach the lower and middle 70s under mostly to partly cloudy skies.

The beginning of the upcoming work week will be variably cloudy and warm. There is a slight chance for spotty rain showers Monday through Wednesday with afternoon temperatures in the upper 70s and lower 80s.
