ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Tuesday marks the beginning of summer 2022. An area of high pressure will build over Southwest and Central Virginia, resulting in very summery conditions.
It will be a cool start to Tuesday, though. Morning temperatures will be in the 50s and lower 60s with some cloud cover overhead. A few early morning rain showers cannot be ruled out. Otherwise, dry weather is slated for much of the day. Temperatures will start ticking up with afternoon highs in the middle 80s and lower 90s. Humidity levels will also begin to rise.
The heat and humidity remain in place throughout the week. For Wednesday, morning temperatures will start in the 60s. By the afternoon, high temperatures will be in the upper 80s and 90s. These will be our hottest temperatures of the week. It’s important to find ways to stay cool in this heat. Remember to drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks in the shade if you’re working outside. Check on your neighbors, the elderly, children, and pets in these hot conditions.
Showers and storms are possible late Wednesday afternoon and into the evening hours. Rain will be hit or miss. However, there will be some instability in place due to the warm and humid conditions. A few storms may become strong to severe. The main storm hazard will be gusty winds. Hail cannot be ruled out.
Thursday will be a few degrees cooler than Wednesday. It will still be warm outside with highs in the 80s and lower 90s across Southwest and Central Virginia. Due to a stalled frontal boundary near the area, spotty showers and a few storms are possible.
There is a slight chance of rain in the forecast for Friday, but it looks to be one of our quieter days ahead. It won’t be as hot with highs in the 80s. However, the heat and humidity will increase into the weekend. A few showers and storms are possible Saturday and Sunday with highs in the very warm 80s and 90s.
