The area of high pressure that has been keeping the region on the dry and mild side for the last few days is hanging around. The result of this stagnant pattern for Virginia will be sunny skies Friday and Saturday. The high will slowly shift off to the east which will bring in some cloud cover on Sunday. The chance for rain is not expected to arrive in the region until at least late Tuesday. The reason for the rain on Tuesday may be due in part to the remnants of what is now Eta. Eta is forecast to move into the Gulf of Mexico early next week and may be contributing moisture north.
Friday will be a sunny and dry day with temperatures trending warmer heading into the weekend. Normal highs for Friday in Roanoke is 63 so reaching the low 70s is well above our average temperature for the day. The solar energy will help to contribute to the warming pattern as well as the sinking air under the dome of high pressure.
Saturday looks to be another mild day. Clouds will start to move in from the east as the high shifts a bit north and east. Clouds will mainly be filtering the sunshine and will keep temps from reaching 70 again, but will still be above normal. No rain is expected, just clouds. Sunday will be a mix of sun and clouds with more clouds late in the day. Rain chances are very low since the region is so dry therefore, I will not be getting the rain gear out.
The rain gear may be needed late Tuesday and more than likely Wednesday of next week. the remnants of Eta will be approaching and arriving by mid-week so our dry pattern will come to a close. The last time we had rain, and for that matter cloud cover, was the first day of the month, so we have been and are expected to be, on a nice dry run that extends past this weekend. Enjoy, leaves are still on the trees, but falling off at a nice pace. Personally I thought the colors once again this year were on the dull side, or at least the “less vibrant” side.
