There have been some intense storms south and east of the viewing area early in the afternoon, but the bulk of the storms have cleared the viewing area. The big story over the next few days will be the heat. High temperatures are expected to be in the middle and upper 90s.
The reason for the hot pattern is a large ridge of high pressure that has been building west of the Mississippi and is now expanding east of the Mighty Mississippi. The recent rainfall around the Commonwealth has placed a decent amount of moisture in the air so humidity levels are up. Combine that with the heat and we have dangerously high heat.
There are several things you need to do this weekend so you can stay healthy and safe in the heat.
There are also a number of things you need to keep in mind, of utmost importance is…Never leave kids or pets in a hot car.
The heat is going to linger around until the middle of next week, and although we may not break any records, there are some that may be approached.
So if you are planning any outdoor activities this weekend, keep the heat in mind.
This will be an extended period of heat, so stay smart and stay cool.
