Severe storms are likely across the region on Monday as a cold front moves closer to the region. Across all of southwest and central Virginia, there is an enhanced risk of severe storms.

Strong winds will be the main threat with large hail also possible. There is a lot of wind and energy in the atmosphere, so isolated tornadoes are also a possibility with any discrete storms that form. The probability for tornadoes increases the further north you travel across the region.

There could be some lingering showers and storms around for the morning hours that move out of West Virginia. The main threat of severe weather will move across the region during the afternoon and evening hours.

We will see the threat for severe weather because of the heat and humidity that’s expected, especially as temperatures soar in the afternoon.

Temperature and heat index for Monday.

The WFXR Pinpoint Weather Team will have updates on severe weather throughout the day on-air and online throughout the day.
