Rain chances will pick up again late in the day as a front moves southeast across the region.
Scattered showers and storms can be expected late this afternoon and into this evening. Not everyone will see rain, but a few of the storms could be strong to severe. The Storm Prediction Center has outlined areas along and west of the Parkway in a marginal to slight risk (north of I-64) for severe storm development. Any storm that becomes severe today will pose the main threat of damaging wind gusts.
Also, heavy downpours could lead to some localized flooding. Never attempt to cross a water-covered road. Turn around, don’t drown!
The front triggering the showers and storms will work through areas southeast of Roanoke after sunset. With this in mind, showers and storms will continue until midnight in these areas before the front pushes completely out of the region.
Drier air gradually filters in behind the front. Monday will be sunny and not quite as humid. look for highs in the upper 80s. Tuesday will likely be noticeably less humid with sunny skies and highs in the low to mid 80s.
