Pinpoint Weather: Rainy Pattern begins today and will linger into the weekend

Weather Blog

Rain showers and some isolated thunderstorms are likely to cross the region off and on for the next couple of days. There is a bit of a complicated pattern in place as a cold front is moving in from the east (usually cross from the west) and will be impacting the region in a number of ways.  There will be some showers and storms igniting along the front, mainly in the Piedmont, as it stalls out over western Virginia. There will also be the cloud cover that will be tough to scour out as the week comes to a close and there will be the complication of forecasting the temperatures due to the wedge of cool air.

Bottom line is that there will be little in the way of sunshine until Sunday afternoon.  Showers and some storms are expected to be off and on, with a few storms on Thursday afternoon becoming strong to severe.  The severe weather for today is expected to be in eastern Kentucky and Tennessee, but some showers may arrive in the west as the storms push some energy our way.

Then another chance for storms exists in the Piedmont near the back door front (mentioned above).  The showers and storms should linger off and on into Friday morning.

Foggy and cloudy skies kick off the day Friday and there will be a decent amount of low-level moisture most of the day. Not looking at much in the way of rain, but also not going to see much sunshine.  Temperatures will be complicated as they will be in the upper 60s in the east under the wedge of cooler air, and in the 70s to the west and south.  Not all that great of a variance but noticeable for sure.

Saturday will be cloudy and rainy too. The rain will be more likely Saturday and should be more showery in nature. Saturday should be a nice day for a natural watering of the flowers and lawns in the area.   Rain will be fairly widespread Saturday and linger into the night before tapering off near dawn Sunday.

Sunday should be a nice day as the rain will be early in the day, ending near sunrise, so if you have any thoughts of getting outside and enjoying our Spring weather this weekend, Sunday looks to be the day.

Monday and Tuesday are expected to be dry and mild.

Stay safe.
