ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The warm weather will stick around this Friday. However, Southwest and Central Virginia will notice a shift in the weather pattern over the weekend.

Friday will be mostly dry with mostly to partly sunny skies overhead. Winds will be a bit breezy, but not too gusty. Morning temperatures will start in the upper 40s and 50s. By the afternoon, highs will be in the summer-like upper 70s and 80s.

Increasing cloudiness is expected Friday night ahead of an approaching storm system to our west. A cold front will move through Saturday, bringing showers and isolated thunderstorms. Areas of heavy rainfall are possible. Highs will be in the 60s.

There will be a little more instability east of the Blue Ridge Saturday, meaning there is a better chance for thunderstorm development in this area. The Storm Prediction Center has a Marginal Risk for severe weather east of the Blue Ridge Parkway and a Slight Risk for severe weather into eastern portions of Charlotte and Halifax counties. Isolated strong to severe storms cannot be ruled out Saturday afternoon/evening. Strong storms may be capable of producing gusty winds and hail. There is a low risk for rotation.

If you heading out this Saturday—whether it’s Freedom Fest, the Blue Ridge Marathon, or any Earth Day activities—make sure to grab the rain gear and have ways to stay weather aware.

Sunday will be drier, cooler, and blustery with clearing skies overhead. Wind gusts up to 35 mph are possible. Afternoon highs will be in the noticeably cooler 50s and lower 60s.

This cooler pattern will continue into Monday. Patchy frost may develop overnight Sunday into Monday morning, so be prepared to cover your plants and gardens. Otherwise, Monday will be mostly sunny with afternoon temperatures in the upper 50s and middle 60s.

There is the potential for frost development again Tuesday morning. A mix of sun and clouds is in the forecast with slightly milder highs in the 60s. The cooler-than-average weather pattern will continue through the middle of the week with showers possible Wednesday and Thursday.
