Pinpoint Weather: Rain chances decrease, drier and warmer Monday ahead

Weather Blog

Foggy and cloudy conditions will linger around Southwest and Central Virginia into the evening hours. Patchy drizzle is possible in some spots, so slow down and use caution when driving on the roads this evening. Low temperatures will be in the low 50s and upper 40s.

Skies will start off cloudy for Monday morning, and pockets of fog may hang around into the Monday morning commute. However, there will be some sunshine peeking out from behind the clouds during the afternoon. It will feel more fall like outside with afternoon high temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s. These temperatures are considered closer to average for late October.

Tuesday and Wednesday look relatively dry and quiet. A few spotty showers are possible in the Alleghany Highlands late Tuesday, but much of the region will stay rain-free. High temperatures for both days will range from the upper 60s and into the low 70s.

The WFXR Pinpoint Weather Team is already tracking the region’s next chance for rain, which is slated for the latter half of the week. This moisture is expected to come from Tropical Storm Zeta, which formed early Sunday morning.

Zeta formed over the western Caribbean Sea and is forecast to make its way into the Gulf of Mexico by Tuesday. This storm has the potential to reach hurricane strength while it travels through the warm waters of the Gulf. Zeta is expected to make landfall Wednesday along the Louisiana coastline, which has already had four named storms make landfall along this year. As Zeta comes on shore, it is expected to head in our general direction, which will likely produce rain in the region on Thursday and maybe into Friday as well.
