ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Another mild day is in store for Southwest Virginia, but we’ll notice a cooldown by the weekend.

An area of high pressure stays in control for the middle of the week. While we could see some clouds Wednesday morning, more sunshine is in the forecast for the day. Morning temperatures will start in the 40s and 50s, but afternoon highs will be in the mild upper 60s and 70s. Similar to Tuesday, these temperatures are well above the seasonal average. Overnight lows will be in the 40s.

Clouds will increase Thursday as a cold front approaches the region. The weather will stay relatively dry for most of Veterans Day with highs reaching the 60s. While a few late afternoon rain showers are possible, the bulk of the wet weather will move through Thursday evening into early Friday morning.

Most of the rain will be off to the east around sunrise Friday morning. Skies will clear and winds will be breezy at times. Temperatures will be cooler, but seasonal. Expect high temperatures in the upper 50s and 60s. Overnight temperatures will fall into the chilly 30s and lower 40s.

It will be noticeably cooler for the weekend and there is the chance for a few mountain snow showers along west-facing slopes. However, there won’t be much moisture to work with. Otherwise, much of Southwest Virginia will see variably cloudy skies overhead with breezy winds blowing through. High temperatures will be in the chilly upper 40s and into the middle 50s Saturday. Freezing conditions return to the forecast for Sunday morning as temperatures start in the 20s and lower 30s. Highs will be in the middle 40s and into the lower 50s for Sunday afternoon.

The chilly weather pattern is expected to continue into the beginning of next week, but the dry weather will stay in place. Currently, the Climate Prediction Center’s Temperature Outlook for the next six to ten days shows much of the Commonwealth experiencing cooler-than-average temperatures for the upcoming week.
