Pinpoint Weather: More dry and mild conditions today, cooler Sunday

Weather Blog

The last few days have been on the mild side as the mercury in the thermometer has passed the 70° mark in a number of locations. Today will be no different. Area high temperatures are slated to push past normal before noon in some spots and records may be approached.

The Cooler air will be pushed to the north while the Commonwealth remains bathed in the milder pattern.

There is a cold front slated to arrive on Saturday evening that is expected to drive temps down to near-normal levels, the low 50s, but no rain is expected to arrive with the frontal passage. We do need the rain, but that may not arrive until the middle of next week.

So for now enjoy the dry and mild pattern. It will be good weather to put up your holiday decorations on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday will be better, but Sunday will be fine too.

The Forecast for Saturday looks good for hanging up the lights.

Sunday will be cooler and cloudy, but that may make the lights pop out a bit more under the overcast skies.

On a separate note: Sunday is the Lynchburg Christmas Parade, I will be there taking part along with Amanda Lee. Please come out and say hello.

The latest update on the Grindstone Fire is that it is nearly contained (96%). Containment does not mean it is out, and it is still smoking and smoldering. The good news is that the winds have relaxed but the ground is still dry and the leaves and sticks and pine needles etc. (ground litter) are still easily ignited, so we are not out of the woods yet. Remember to extinguish all cigarettes and cigars and be mindful of the fact that the region is dangerously dry and any wildfire that starts will spread rapidly.
