Pinpoint Weather: Mild pattern this weekend, light rain by late Sunday

Weather Blog

The run of dry and mild weather will continue into the weekend as the mercury in the thermometer will be about 10 degrees above normal on Friday and Saturday. The air will be dry and the winds will be light so I do expect a quick cool down overnight, but still above normal for mid-November. Lows will be in the 40s overnight each night this weekend.

Saturday will be a nice and mild day with high temperatures reaching the middle to upper 60s most locations. The temperature profile will be uniform throughout all five of our forecast zones with the mountains being a bit cooler, but not by much, reaching the upper 50s.  There will be a noticeable increase in the cloud cover over late in the day Saturday, but no rain is in the forecast. There may be some rain on west facing slopes overnight into Sunday in Pocahontas and Greenbrier counties, but not much more.

Sunday will be a cloudy day as the region awaits the crossing of a cold front. Ahead of the front will be a mix of clouds and sunshine, with more clouds than sun late in the day. The rain associated with this feature is likely to be light and spotty. The best chance for rain will be well west of the Appalachian Range, but we may squeeze out a few showers near sunset or overnight into Monday. The amount of rain is expected to be around .10” so not very impactful.

Monday will start out with some light rain over the region then quickly yield to some sunshine late in the day. The noticeable difference will be the cooler air behind the rain. The highs on Monday will be in the middle 50s in the afternoon, then back near freezing overnight into Tuesday as the skies clear.

Tuesday will see a return of clouds in the morning but only muster high temperatures in the low 50s. Wednesday will see the breezy pattern return along with more widespread rain, but not until late afternoon or early evening. There is potential for the rain to linger into Thanksgiving morning, then give way to some sun.

Noting earth shattering weather-wise over the next few days, a mix of clouds and sun over the weekend, some spotty showers, mild conditions and a bit of a breeze from time to time.

Please stay safe this holiday season and remember the guidelines for dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic.
