This afternoon will be cloudy and nowhere near as cold as it will be through the weekend. Highs will be in the upper 30s to low 40s.
A vigorous cold front will bring not only strong winds but bitterly cold temperatures. Those will create multiple hazards. The winds gusting to 50 mph will threaten trees and power lines and the bitter cold temperatures with the wind will be dangerous to be out in.
There will be a period of snowfall Friday morning with some light accumulation possible in the mountains. Little or no accumulation is expected for Roanoke and the Piedmont.
