ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Much of Southwest Virginia had pleasant weather conditions for Thanksgiving. However, we’re anticipating a breezier and colder Friday ahead.

Dress warmly if you’re planning on doing some Black Friday shopping. A cold front swept through the area overnight. While a few lingering morning rain showers are possible — as well as some mountain snow showers — skies will gradually clear during the morning hours. Winds will pick up, with gusts between 20 – 30 mph possible. These northwest winds will help to filter in colder air. Expect temperatures to stay in the 40s and 30s throughout the day.

Skies will be clear by the overnight hours. Low temperatures will be in the 20s, but the breezy winds will result in wind chills in the teens in some locations.

The weekend won’t be as cold, but it will be chilly for some. High temperatures will be in the 40s and 50s for both Saturday and Sunday. More sunshine is slated for Saturday with skies becoming mostly cloudy on Sunday. A cold front will sweep through Southwest Virginia late Sunday, but little moisture will be associated with this passing front. Mountain snow showers are possible along west-facing slopes.

Winds will be on the breezy side for Monday and temperatures will be slightly colder. Expect highs to be in the 40s across much of the region. However, temperatures will gradually warm up throughout the week. While many locations will be in the upper 40s and 50s for Tuesday and Wednesday, some spots may make it into the 60s by Thursday and Friday of the upcoming week.
