Pinpoint Weather: Cold night followed by a chilly day

Weather Blog

Clearing skies and less wind along with the cold air moving in from the northwest will allow the temps tonight to dip into the teens and 20s. Not much wind means that the wind chill values will be similar to the actual temps, unfortunately, when the temps are in the teens, just a light breeze may make it feel like single digits at times. Bundle up early this morning if you are taking your puppy for a walk near dawn.

The cold air is retreating to the north just a bit but may not stay there long. The region will see temps in the 50s for highs on both today and Sunday, but much cooler on Monday.

Also, not only will we be on the cold side, we will be on the dry side. The updated Drought Monitor for this week has the Piedmont region in the Abnormally Dry category with a pocket a Moderate Drought scenario in the extreme southeast counties of Pittsylvania, Halifax, Campbell, and Charlotte counties. Fire weather concerns this weekend as the ground is dry and the winds are noticeable, so any fires that ignite will have a chance to spread rapidly so be mindful of anything that may start a fire.

Another activity that may be prevalent this weekend will be putting up your holiday decorations. The weather will be pleasant for late November with temps in the upper 40s to low 50s and partly cloudy. Stay safe and make sure you have a ladder spotter.

Here is the forecast for Where You Live…

The Highlands may see some snow on west facing slope snow early Sunday but not much is expected elsewhere.

If you are traveling to Charlottesville today to check out the Hokies and the Cavaliers, it will be a bit chilly late in the day with a light breeze.

Please stay safe on the back end of the long holiday weekend. Not much trouble from the weather world, except for the cold air.

Stay safe,
