ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — High pressure will dominate much of the forecast for the next few days. This means fair weather for much of Southwest Virginia to start the new week.

Mostly clear skies and light winds during the overnight hours have led to temperatures in the cold 20s for Monday morning. You may want to give yourself a little extra time to defrost your car before you head out on your morning commute. Otherwise, plentiful sunshine is in the forecast. It will be slightly milder outside. High temperatures will be in the lower and middle 50s west of the Blue Ridge. Highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s can be expected elsewhere.

It will be another chilly start for Tuesday with morning lows in the freezing 20s. Similar to Monday, there will be plenty of sunshine across Southwest Virginia. Afternoon temperatures will continue to be warmer than average for December. Highs will range from the middle 50s and into the lower 60s.

Wednesday will be slightly cooler, but only by a few degrees. Morning temperatures will be in the upper 20s and lower 30s, while afternoon highs will be in the 50s. A mix of sun and clouds will be overhead.

Thursday is slated to be one of our warmer days as a front approaches the region. Southwest winds will allow high temperatures to reach the milder 60s across Southwest Virginia. Clouds will increase during the day. A few rain showers cannot be ruled out for Thursday evening.

Light rain showers will have the chance to move through Friday afternoon and evening. It’s not expected to be persistent rain, but you may want an umbrella on hand if you’re planning on heading out. High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler, but still mild for this time of year.

There’s still the potential for a few showers Saturday as another front sweeps through the region. The beginning of the weekend will be on the mild side. Highs for Saturday will be in the 60s and lower 70s. Once the front swings through Southwest Virginia, we’ll feel cooler air moving in. By Sunday, highs will be in the seasonably cooler 40s.
