ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Our summer-like weather pattern is coming to a close this Tuesday as a cold front approaches from the west.

For Tuesday morning, temperatures will start in the lower 60s and 50s with increasing cloudiness overhead. Showers are possible late Tuesday morning into the afternoon. High temperatures will range from the 60s in the mountains and into the lower 80s in Central Virginia and Southside. A few isolated thunderstorms may develop later in the day. A couple of storms could become strong to severe.

Currently, the Storm Prediction Center has a Marginal Risk for severe weather in place for our Piedmont counties. Any strong storms that develop could produce gusty winds and hail. Downpours are possible with these storms, as well.

Rain chances will decrease during the evening hours. Cooler air will filter in behind the front, resulting in the cooler weather pattern in the forecast. Overnight lows will be in the 40s and upper 30s.

Despite the plentiful sunshine Wednesday, cooler-than-average conditions are back for the middle of the week. Winds will be blustery at times with gusts up to 30 mph possible. The New River Valley and Alleghany Highlands will have high temperatures in the mid-50s and into the lower 60s. Elsewhere, highs will be in the middle and upper 60s.

Winds will die down Wednesday evening. With calmer conditions and clear skies in place, expect overnight temperatures to tumble into the 30s. Some spots could see patchy frost Thursday morning.

Thursday and Friday are looking quiet and dry. Mostly sunny skies are slated for Thursday with highs in the upper 50s and into the upper 60s. Friday morning will be rather chilly with morning temperatures in the 30s and lower 40s. However, we could start to see a few more 70-degree temperatures popping up by the afternoon.

Temperatures will be spring-like for the weekend, but there is the potential for rain in the forecast. A warm front will be near Southwest and Central Virginia. This could set off a few late-day showers Saturday. However, there is a slightly higher potential for some showers and storms Sunday. Highs will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s each afternoon.
