ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The dreary weather pattern continues across Southwest and Central Virginia this Friday and into the weekend.

A cool wedge setup is expected for the next few days. This means areas of light rain, cooler temperatures, and cloudy conditions are in the forecast. For Friday, a few spotty light rain showers are possible. Fog may be an issue during the morning hours. It will be cloudy and noticeably cooler outside with temperatures staying steady in the 40s throughout the day.

Saturday will be cloudy and chilly. A few spotty light showers cannot be ruled out, but much of the area will stay fairly dry. Morning temperatures will start in the cold 30s before warming up into the lower and middle 40s by the afternoon.

Some rain showers are possible Saturday night into Sunday morning. However, it won’t be a washout. While Sunday will start cloudy and damp, some sunshine may peek out during the afternoon hours. Highs will be in the upper 40s and lower 50s.

High pressure will build into Southwest and Central Virginia for the beginning of next week. Mostly to partly sunny skies are expected for Monday and Tuesday. Cold morning temperatures will return with lows in the upper 20s and lower 30s.

Another frontal boundary will impact the area for the middle of the upcoming week. Showers will begin to move in Wednesday and continue into Thursday. Due to the cold air in place, we could see a brief changeover to a rain/snow mix Wednesday night.
