Pinpoint Weather: Christmas will be mild, dry, and a windy at times

A Special Weather Statement has been issued for most of the viewing area advising folks to be mindful of the windy scenarios.
A Wind Advisory is in place for Mercer, Bland, Wythe, Smyth, Tazewell and Grayson counties until just after Midnight Tonight as gusts may reach the 45 mph range

The winds will be gusty at times today and will generally be from the Southwest. Sustained winds will be around 10 – 15 mph most of the day and gusts could be recorded in the 25 – 35 mph range.

Today will be a very mild day with the chance for some records to fall. The record that may be the most in jeopardy in Roanoke.

The old record of 68 set back in 1982 should at least be tied today. There is a chance, if the winds become more westerly, that the temps will spike into the 70s. Clouds and the wind will be the major factors determining the fate of the old record.

So if you are planning to inflate “Frosty” tonight on the lawn, make sure he is tethered well to the ground.

If you were wondering about a White Christmas, well it doesn’t happen much around here, in fact, it is rare.

So enjoy the quiet and dry day with temps getting close to record levels this afternoon. Stay safe and enjoy the holiday weekend.
