Pinpoint Weather: Chilly night ahead, milder on Thanksgiving, chilly the rest of the weekend

Weather Blog

Another cold night ahead with temps dipping into the 20s in most locations and a few teens in the higher elevated locations. Skies will be clear and winds will be light but that will be changing as we move into Thanksgiving.

Early risers for the Drumstick Dash will be treated to some crisp conditions during the morning hours of the day. Stay hydrated if you are running, the air is very dry.

Thanksgiving will be much milder than normal, topping out in the 50s west of the 81 interstate, and the 60s east of that line.  Plenty of sunshine to start, then clouds will arrive late in the day ahead of some spotty rain slated for the region after sunset and before sunrise Friday.

The rain will generally be light but some snow may accumulate on west-facing slopes of the Alleghany Mountains by Friday morning. The snow will be intermittent on Friday west of the spine of the Appalachians, but little to no accumulation will occur.

Mostly sunny skies are forecast for Friday but there will be a noticeable change in the region as highs will only reach the upper 30s to middle 40s. Winds will be from the NW as 10 – 15 mph as well, so a bite in the air will be felt by the winds.

The cold pattern will linger into the weekend with highs on Saturday and Sunday also only reaching the upper 40s and maybe a few 50s on Sunday.

Stay Safe and Happy Thanksgiving.
