Pinpoint Weather: A few clouds early then mostly sunny and cool today

Weather Blog

Dropping below normal over the weekend as the mild pattern is replaced with a brisk and chilly one. A few clouds will start the day but for the most part, the region will be mostly sunny. A chance for some light rain and snow before sunrise in the western facing slopes of the Alleghany Highlands may provide some slick roads but for the most part, the area will stay dry.

Saturday looks to be on the brisk side, mainly in the mountains and foothills, with gusts near 25 mph to accompany the chilly air. Highs will only be in the middle 50s and some low 40s west of the foothills. The cooler air will replace the mild pattern we have been dealing with this week.

Sunday continues the cool pattern with plenty of sunshine. Winds will relax a bit but the overall theme of the weekend will be sunny and cooler. Winds may pick up a bit Sunday night and we could see a bit more snow in the mountains.

Monday should stay dry as the mercury in the thermometer dips well below normal. Highs are likely to be in the 30s and 40s so it is time to make sure you have sorted out your heating situation.

Check your heating systems and clear and or clean your chimney and be mindful to keep anything flammable away from any space heaters. Snow is possible again in the Highlands Monday, but not much more than an inch or so.

The rest of the week should be a bit milder ending with temps in the 60s by the middle of the week.
