A sprawling area of high pressure will continue to build into the region today and it’s going to camp out over the area for several days to come. We’ve got another great start to the day today. Under mainly clear skies with just a light breeze, overnight temps have dropped all the way into the low 50s in spots to the west to the mid-60s to the east. Dew points are still mainly in the very comfortable range of the 50s as well making for another crisp feeling start to the day like we saw yesterday. Temps will remain slightly below normal over the next couple of days until we climb back into the upper 80s near 90° as we head into next week on Monday. So you know, the average high temperature in Roanoke for this point in July is 87° and we’ll be peaking in the 70s to low to mid-80s across the area today. Dew points remain in the 50s for most areas this morning giving us that nice crisp, comfortable feel to the air and it will stay that way throughout the day. Now, even though it is quite a bit cooler the UV Index will be very high today so you’ll need to stay on top of your sunscreen application. Take a lunch with you that you can take outside over the next couple of days to get some fresh air and get out of the stale office for a bit each day or at least take a walk at lunch time to get a break from being indoors.
With the high pressure in control through the weekend the weather will stay sunny and dry. There’s lots to do this weekend, Movies that rock Friday night at Dr. Pepper Park at the Bridges, the Car-B-Q classic car show Friday evening at the Transportation Museum, Touch-a-truck in Green Hill Park in Salem Saturday and the weather looks picture perfect for all of them!
It’s also that time of year that I need to remind folks to please, NEVER leave your kids or pets in the car. The interior of your car will heat up extremely quickly and reach dangerous, if not deadly, levels in a very short period of time. If you want to take the dog for a car ride than make it a dedicated ride for them, don’t stop for groceries or to pick something up. It only takes a few minutes for the temperature in your vehicle to reach those dangerous levels. If you have a small child be sure you double check the back seat when you get out.
