Hot weather again today, strong storms possible, cooler & rainy Friday
For the second day in a row the region will be dealing with significantly warmer conditions along with humidity. The feels-like temperatures will once again top the 100-degree mark in some Piedmont locations. There will be a summer feel to the atmosphere as we push into mid-September. Isolated strong storms may develop in the heat of the day similar to what happens in the heat of summer. Storms are expected to develop in our eastern communities once again today, and may produce gusty winds as the main feature. Keep an eye to the sky today and tonight as the storms, if they do form, will be fairly robust
Friday a cold front move in from the northeast and that may give us a bit of cloud cover and some rain to go along with the cooler air. Showers and drizzle may define the day Friday. This will move in from the north and east and usher in some maritime moisture that will get blocked up against the mountains. This is a classic wedge formation so we can look forward to clouds and mist along with light rain most of the day. The temperature forecast range goes from the upper 60s to the low 80s, but most model consensus has us looking at mid-70s for highs. Quick math… that’s about 20 degrees below our forecast for today in some spots.
Saturday may see showers and storms under partly to mostly cloudy skies while Sunday looks to continue the trend of sunny to partly cloudy starts yielding to scattered storms in the afternoon. It looks to me at the moment that the region should start to dry out on Monday and temperatures will rise into the middle 80s once again.
