Pinpoint Weather: Warming up over the weekend with a few showers and storms possible

What a wet week, here are some of the rainfall amounts for the Roanoke region as we track the rain from Monday until Friday afternoon.

There were a lot of locations that got a lot of rain, here is a breakdown of the rainfall by county this week.

As for the holiday weekend there will be much less wet weather on the docket but there will still be a few isolated storms popping up in the afternoon.  The warmth of the day will help to percolate the atmosphere and that will get a few storms popping up in the heat of the day. Not much in the way of widespread rain, but enough for us to take notice of in the mid-day time frame. Remember to keep the rain gear handy all weekend.  Just a quick note, if you are out and about near area waterways, make sure to stay safe as the recent rains have increase the water speed on area rivers so don’t get caught off guard today by the swift water.

Sunday will be an interesting day meteorologically as there is going to be an introduction of cooler air arriving from the northeast. That usually translates into a cool wedge of air moving into the Commonwealth.  This also means that I expect to see a good deal of cloud cover moving in Sunday afternoon and into the evening. There is a chance for us to see some storms popping up late in the day as the cool air mixes with the warm and rather moisture filled air.

Memorial Day may be the best day with a mixture of clouds and sunshine and temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s.

I want to thank everyone who has served our country in the military and I am thinking about those who paid the ultimate sacrifice so we can remain free.

 Thanks
