Pinpoint Weather: Flood waters slowly recede today, dry pattern ahead

Since last night there where several flood warnings and advisories issued from the National Weather Service as over 3” of rain fell in some spots. The flood waters are still high and, in some areas, still rising, but for the most part the bulk of the precipitation is over. Now we need to keep an eye on the fast-moving rivers and streams in the Alleghany Highlands as they will be dangerous to be around the loose banks. The combination of snow melting along with the rain added to the issues in the mountains as that acts as a “double dip” of run-off.

There will be a cooler pattern tonight as a cold front will push over the region and provide us with temps below freezing tonight. Black ice is a concern in locations where the wind doesn’t dry off the roads.
