More heat and humidity expected for Thursday. Late afternoon showers and storms possible.
Temperatures stayed on the mild side overnight due to the high dewpoint temperatures. Many spots will be waking up to mild and muggy conditions. Mountainous areas could see fog for the first portion of the morning. Fog is also possible in spots that received rain Wednesday. Fog is expected to lift by mid-morning.
High temperatures will be in the 90s once again for Thursday afternoon. Spotty showers and storms will have the chance to pop up in the afternoon. The Storm Prediction Center has put our Piedmont counties under a Marginal Risk for severe weather. An isolated storm could become strong to severe with hazards being gusty winds, hail, and heavy rainfall. Rain chances will linger into the evening hours, and cloud cover will transition from mostly clear to partly cloudy skies.
A cold front from the northeast will move in Friday. Clouds are expected to increase and cooler air will filter into Southwest Virginia. Light rain showers and drizzle are possible throughout the day. Showers and storms are also expected for Saturday as well.
