Pinpoint Weather: Rainy pattern continues overnight, warming up Tuesday, another system arrives late Wednesday

A complex week is in store for the region as there will be a couple of disturbances moving through. The rain from our first wet system will be consistent most of the day Monday and into the evening. The rain then becomes more off and on overnight before finally tapering off early Tuesday. The amount of rainfall we expect will range in the 1 – 2” category and should be well handled by the ground. The potential for flooding is low, but there may be a few spots that report minor flooding, but nothing major is in the cards. Foggy conditions are likely to develop overnight Monday into early Tuesday as the region warms up.

Tuesday will be a day of clearing and some drying. A few indications are that the rain will linger into the morning hours then partially clear out by the afternoon. That seems to be a good bet, so there may be some spotty showers early, then sunshine late in the afternoon. The other feature of note will be the warm air. The mild conditions will be the result of a brief surge of warm air ahead of a cold front that will cross our area late Wednesday into Thursday.

Pinpoint Weather: Periods of rain likely with some ice possible in higher elevations

While some patchy drizzle is possible for parts of Southwest Virginia in time for the morning commute, rain becomes likely by late this morning.

As a low pressure system approaches from the southwest, rain will become more widespread by late morning. Periods of rain can be expected through the day and into early Tuesday morning before ending.

Pinpoint Weather: Rainy Monday ahead, potential for winter weather later in the week

The week ahead is shaping up to be pretty active weather-wise. We're looking at chilly temperatures, spring-like warmth, rain, freezing rain, and snow in the forecast during the course of the next seven days.

Some light rain and snow is possible west of the Blue Ridge Parkway this evening, although a few flurries may make their way a little further east. Skies will be overcast and low temperatures will be in the 30s tonight.
