UPDATE: 11/19 AT 4:18 P.M. NELSON COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Crews have contained a wildfire that sparked from a vehicle on Afton Mountain in Nelson County.

According to the Virginia Department of Forestry, the Royal Orchard Fire on Afton Mountain was successfully contained on Nov. 18.

The blaze first ignited on Thursday, Nov. 16 after a vehicle fire progressed into a wildfire on Afton Mountain. Several crews responded to the area to assist and the fire was contained within 72 hours.

Officials confirm the fire was 29 acres.

The department says crews will remain on the scene to monitor until the area receives rainfall.

NELSON COUNTY, Va. (WFXR)—The Virginia Department of Forestry is reporting a wildfire in the Royal Orchard area of Nelson County.

Wintergreen Fire and Rescue reports the fire ignited from a vehicle fire on Afton Mountain on Thursday, Nov. 16. The fire department says most of Augusta County, Nelson County, and Albemarle County worked together with the Virginia Department of Forestry to get an early start on containment process before it could turn into a multi-week process.

According to the Department of Forestry, the fire is currently 20 acres. Crews have been working on containing it early, as they have it 10% contained already.

Wintergreen Fire says weather forecasts predict there will be some rain next Tuesday, Nov. 21 and hopes will help further the containment process.
