PATRICK COUNTY, Va. (WFXR)—In response to the active wildfire and fire hazards conditions currently in the county, Patrick County has declared a Local Emergency and is issuing a burn ban effective immediately.

According to the county, experience has shown that suspending open air burning is an effective way to prevent fire from escaping and allows a quick-fire agency response. Although not all wildfires can be prevented, the county hopes that by implementing an open aur burn ban can reduce the numbers of wood land and brush fires.

The open-air ban is applicable to public and private property and will remain in effect until Patrick County receives sufficient precipitation to reduce the fire danger.
