BLACKSBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia Tech Police have launched two separate investigations involving alleged sexual assaults against students on campus.

According to campus police, the first assault was reported on Wednesday, Nov. 1. Police said the alleged rape took place in Pearson Hall overnight on Sept. 17. At this point in the investigation, it is believed that the victim and offender knew each other and were acquaintances.

On Thursday, Nov. 2, police received a second report of a sexual assault, that occurred at Pritchard Hall. According to police, the incident took place on Sept. 22 and meets the elements of Forcible Sodomy. It is believed that the victim and offender knew each other.

Campus Police confirmed that the alleged offender in both incidents was a Virginia Tech student. However, it is unknown if the same person was involved in both assaults.

This is the third reported sexual assault in the month of September and the eighth reported that has occurred in the year 2023, according to Virginia Tech.

Virginia Tech says any person who has been a victim of sexual assault it is their priority to help and support them. The college tells WFXR News that they continue to support victims and prevent assaults from happening again in the future.

The college has decided not to further comment as the two incidents remain under investigation.
