BLACKSBURG, Va. (WFXR) – For an eight consecutive year, Virginia Tech has been awarded the 2023 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) in INSIGHT Into Diversity Magazine.

The HEED Award is a national honor recognizing U.S. colleges and universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion.

“We are honored to be recognized for eight consecutive years and will continue working toward a more inclusive campus where every student has access to rich educational experiences that put them on a path to a productive life and career,” said Virginia Tech President Tim Sands.

Only given to a limited number of universities across the nation, VT will be one of the schools featured in the magazines December issue. The magazine is the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education.

The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine was also chosen for the sixth consecutive year for the Health Professions Higher Education in Diversity Award. The school was recognized for its continued commitment to diversity and inclusion.

The school has implemented diversity initiatives, including outreach programs for high school students interested in the program, partnering with three of VT’s Living Learning Communities, and collaborating with HBCUs to identify and provide resources that prepare students underrepresented in medicine for undergraduate medical education.
