Salem native Billy Sample gets a special honor from his hometown


Salem, VA(WFXR) – Former Major League Baseball star, broadcaster, and Salem native Billy Sample got a special honor at a place he has spent a lot of time playing there. Friday afternoon, Kiwanis Park was dedicated to be named as Billy Sample Field. Sample was a 3 sports star at the old Andrew Lewis High School. Sample played 9 years in the major leagues for the Texas Rangers, New York Yankees, and Atlanta Braves from 1978–1986.
