This week senior forward Janayla White earned herself the Big South conference player of the week honor.
“It feels good, “White said. “I mean I give most credit to my teammates and coaches and without them I wouldn’t have been able to get it.”
White averaged 15.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and shot 61.5 percent (8-for-13) from the field in two of the Lady Highlander’s Big South victories last week. The senior put up a team-high 20 points with 17 rebounds in the Highlanders’ 52-45 home win over league-leading Liberty on Tuesday. She then tallied 11 points, five rebounds, five blocks and a pair of steals in Radford’s road triumph at Winthrop on Saturday. The five blocks tied for the second-most by a Big South player this season. Coach Mike McGuire says Janayla’s success is directly linked to her physical health.
“Her junior year she battled a sprained ankle and this year she was out for a month,” McGuire said. “For her to find herself now is really great to see.”
The Lady Highlander’s will play Presbyterian on Saturday in South Carolina. Look for my Radford Women’s Notebook later this week on virginiafirst.com.
