Patrick Henry & William Fleming get players on VHSL Class 5 girls all state team


The VHSL released their Class 5 girls basketball team. Patrick Henry and William Fleming got all state recognition. PH junior Savannah Derey and Fleming junior Shakara Anderson were named to the first team. Patriots sophomore Shelby Fiddler earned 2nd team honors. Patrick Henry girls head coach Mike Hedrick earned coach of the year for Class 5.

Derey averaged a double-double for the Patriots. She scored 15.3 points per game, 10.5 rebounds per game, 4.6 assists per game. Derey had 72 steals and 62 blocks during the season.

Anderson led the Colonels in scoring. She averaged 17.5 points per game, 9.6 rebounds per game, 4.3 steals per game, and 4.2 assists per game.

Fiddler led the Patriots in 3 pointers by hitting 71 in the season. She also had 70 steals this season. Fiddler averaged 12.6 points per game, 4.6 assists per game and 3.1 rebounds per game.

In each of his three seasons as PH head coach, Hedrick has led them to the state tournament. It was PH’s only state tournament appearances in girls basketball. This past season was Patrick Henry’s breakthrough season. The program won back to back River Ridge District tournament titles, the school won their first regional title, they also won their first state tournament game in leading PH to the state final four for the firs time in program history.
