Modified Cars back at Martinsville

NASCAR

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Thursday is the start of a big race weekend at the Martinsville Speedway.
The modified cars return to Martinsville after an 11 year break Thursday night at 8 for the Virginia Is For Racing Lovers 200. It is also the season opener for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.
Martinsville hosted a modified race in NASCAR’s inaugural season on July 4, 1948.
The mods raced off and on at Martinsville from 1960-2010.
Cup series driver and 2013 Whelan tour champ Ryan Preece won last weekend at South Boston Speedway. He’s excited about getting back inside a modified car to race Thursday. “It would be nice to go there tomorrow and hopefully dominate the race and win. I feel we got a great race car and obviously a little momentum on our side right now so yeah we will see,” said Preece.
