It’s Race Week: NASCAR is back at Martinsville Speedway this weekend

NASCAR

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — The Martinsville Speedway is hosting the penultimate races of the NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series, and the NASCAR Truck Series this weekend.

Last year, the pandemic limited the number of fans at the Martinsville Speedway to about 1,000 people, but this year, the speedway will be open at full capacity.

Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell says having fans back will make this year even more special.

“I think this weekend is going to be one of the best ones,” said Campbell. “You think about the number of people this race attracts, it’s like a Super Bowl twice a year for a community the size of Martinsville. “

According to Campbell, you can expect to see the typical hard Martinsville racing this weekend.

Cierra Hopkins, a waitress at Clarence’s Steak & Seafood, says the eatery will see a big boost in business.

“I’m expecting to basically have a line out the door the entire day and entire weekend. I believe we are going to have really good business,” said Hopkins.

The race will open up on Saturday, Oct. 30, hosting a doubleheader with the United Rentals 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Playoff race at 1 p.m. and the Dead On Tools 250 NASCAR Xfinity Series Playoff race at 6 p.m. The competitors for the NASCAR Cup Series’ Xfinity 500 will race on Sunday, Oct. 31 at 2 p.m.
