Heading into this weekend’s race at Martinsville, Denny Hamlin sits just five points shy of the cutoff to advance to the Championship 4.

The Chesterfield, Va.-native is looking to contend for a title for the fourth straight season and fifth overall.

Hamlin has been relatively successful in the playoffs with four Top 5 finishes and only one finish outside the Top 10 during the postseason. That kind of consistency was hard to find during the regular season, including at Martinsville, where Hamlin finished 28th back in the spring.

But the Commonwealth Kid, who’s been racing in the Cup Series since 2006, still feels like he has plenty to give as a driver. And whether or not he does qualify for the Championship 4 in Phoenix, Hamlin has no plans on giving up his pursuit for an elusive Cup Series title anytime soon.

“I’m still competitive and can win on any given week and as long as that’s the case, I’ll be here for awhile. But this year’s been tough to find consistency,” Hamlin said before the playoffs at a media event in Charlotte. “Now we’ve got a new car and so we’ve really missed the setup quite a few times with it. Martinsville was one of those in the spring where we were a bunch of laps down which is very uncharacteristic of myself and this team. But we’re certainly not going to have those results when we go back and race for a championship.”

Hamlin is seeking his first win at the Paperclip since 2015.
