HIGH POINT, N.C. (WFXR) – It was a long afternoon for the No.6 Roanoke College baseball team in the ODAC Baseball Final Weekend. After falling to Shenandoah in game one 5-4, the Maroons had to face No.1 ranked Lynchburg for a chance to compete in the finals.
In the top of the second inning Roanoke College sophomore infielder Jonny Wall was able to score a run from a ground out from catcher P.K. Cocolis to give the Maroons an early lead.
Lynchburg would respond in the bottom of the fifth inning, where the Hornets were able to tie the game. The contest would go into extra innings, where in the top of the 10th inning, Maroons Hunter Andrews hit a groundout, but the ensuing play to first was overthrown. Roanoke College was able to take advantage and score a run that lifted the Maroons past the University of Lynchburg and into the finals.
Sunday, Roanoke College will have their rematch against against No.2 Shenandoah in the ODAC Baseball Finals. First pitch is set for 10 a.m.
