Daleville, VA(WFXR)- Our next Friday Night Blitz Game of the Week features two schools that each won their respective season openers. Now these 1-0 squads battle for that second victory of 2019. We get you ready for Lord Botetourt versus Blacksburg — beginning with a look at the Cavaliers. LB learned a lot from a tough battle with Brookville last week. “Week 1, a lot of errors. A lot of turnovers. A lot of missed assignments. Things that if we cleaned up, we would’ve performed quite a bit better,” said Lord Botetourt head football coach Jamie Harless. Despite these criticisms, Lord Botetourt head coach Jamie Harless is grateful his team escaped with the 15-9 victory over Brookville in Week one. “Positives I take away is when you go into a place like Brookville who’s got the tradition they have and the teams they have typically year in and year out and you can have as many turnovers and penalties and missed assignments as we did and we won the game? I think we had an angel with us I think,” said Harless. The Cavaliers now take their 1-0 record to Blacksburg. But they may have to take the field without running back Hunter Rice. The Liberty commit left the season opener with an ankle injury.

“He’s a great teammate, great person, we’re just looking forward to getting him back on the field but next man up but I got faith in my guys behind him… Our next guys up are very determined, very excited to step into that big role and I’m looking forward to seeing him execute on Friday,” said LB senior center Crews Jones.

While Botetourt’s depth gets tested early in the season, the team’s strong chemistry has become a strength for the Cavaliers. “They like each other. That’s important. I think all the kids like each other. I think they get along well which means the idea that they’ll come together quicker. We’ve got some new components that we’ve got on the team as far as new people filling in roles that they have not filled in before. That’s a learning curve there definitely a talented group of young men,” said Harless. Kickoff between Lord Botetourt and Blacksburg is set for 7pm Friday at Bill Brown Stadium.
