LEXINGTON, Va.(WFXR) — Tuesday afternoon we got a chance to hear from VMI’s new head men’s basketball coach in Andrew Wilson. Wilson was recently an assistant for Salem native Mark Byington at James Madison.
He also played for Roanoke native Steve Robinson at Florida State. Wilson takes over for Dan Earl, who left VMI to take the head coaching job at Chattanooga. This is Wilson’s first head coaching job at the college level.
“I am really excited to be here. I am really excited about this opportunity to lead this basketball program here at VMI. I am really appreciative of the leadership here at VMI for giving me this opportunity. I know there are a lot of challenges here at VMI. I do not want anything easy. I want a challenge. There is a lot of great history here at VMI and associated with this basketball program. I know there have been a lot of great basketball players that have come through here and it is an honor to be the 29th head coach here at VMI,” said Wilson.
