LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Baseball is back in our region! Tuesday night was opening night for the Lynchburg Hillcats. After a year without minor league baseball, fans were happy to be back in the stands!

The rain let up just in time for the game to start at the Bank Of The James Stadium on Tuesday, March 4.

According to one fan, “It’s nice to be back out and watching live baseball in person and being in the environment. We missed it a lot.”

“Aww man it’s great, I miss baseball,” another fan said.

“We’re thrilled to be back,” an out-of-town fan told WFXR News. “We’re ready to be done with masks and distancing and all that stuff and were ready for baseball.”

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, only 30-percent of the seats can be filled but that goes up to 50-percent on May 15.

All fans over the age of two will still have to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
