Radford Falls to Longwood in Big South Debut

FARMVILLE, Va. – Radford (0-3, 0-1 BSC) fell to Longwood (1-4, 1-0 BSC) on Tuesday night in their Big South Conference opener with a final score of 60-91. 
The Highlanders raced out to a 6-0 start to commence the contest thanks to jumpers in the paint from Bryonna McCleanAriel Williams, and Rachel LaLonde. The Lancers were kept off the board for a few ticks of the clock under eight minutes by way of Aikla Smith’s jumper from the same area. From there on the momentum and lead belonged to Longwood. The Lancers reached the break with a 52-28 lead over the Highlanders. 
In the third, Radford’s adjustments during halftime showed en route to playing their tightest period of the game against Longwood with a two-point margin, 15-17. LaLonde’s signature jumper came at the 9:44 mark and ignited a pair of back-to-back fastbreak points from McClean. Down the stretch Tina Lindenfeld’s three-ball fell in addition to points from Ariel Williams, to add to the offensive sparks from LaLonde and McClean. 
The Highlanders trailed the Lancers 43-69 entering the final period. Longwood pulled away to solidify the victory and added 22 points to their total while keeping Radford to 17 points. 
The Lancers ended the game with four in double digits, as Kyla McMakin and Adriana Shipp both scored 19 points. The win gave head coach Rebecca Tillett her first victory over Radford in her tenure at Longwood. 
Williams and McClean paced the offense for Radford, with Williams’ career and season high 13 points. McClean added 12 to the total and both notched five rebounds.  
Radford’s rematch against Longwood comes quickly on Wednesday, December 16 at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
