ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — North Cross School is excited to announce its first athletic signing of the year…Asia Minnes, Class of ’21, signed with the University of Tennessee for Swimming. New to North Cross School last year, Asia Minnes moved to Roanoke from Canada and immediately set the Virginia high school swimming world on fire by being named the 2020 Blue Ridge Conference Swimmer of the Year, winning two VISAA State Individual Swimming Titles and by breaking seven NCS school swimming records in the process!! (50 Free- 23.55, 100 Free- 53.42, 200 IM 2:01.05, 100 Back- 54.17, 100 Fly- 58.50 and 200 Free Relay with NCS teammates Tanner Vogel, Katelyn Lorens & Natalie Lorens).  For all of her dominance, Asia was aptly named the team’s 2020 NCS Girls Swimming MVP last year as well. A self-proclaimed “IMer” with her top strokes being Breast and Back, Asia has impressive swimming credentials and is listed as the top ranked 100 Breaststroker in SwimSwam’s “Way too Early List of girls from the High School Class of 2021.”  Asia is also a Canadian National Swimmer who won the 2018 Canadian Jr National title in the 200 IM and attended the Canadian Olympic Trials in April of 2019, placing 10th in the 100 Back and 13th in the 50 Breast. 
Last year, Asia was the third verbal commit to the University of Tennessee’s Class of 2025 Swimming program and officially signed her NLI back last week.
