SALEM, Va. (WFXR) — While Brent Pry will lead a staff of new faces on the sidelines at Lane Stadium, the broadcast booth at Virginia tech will be a blast from the past. Mike Burnop reunites with Bill Roth to provide play by play commentary for Hokies football.

The pair worked together for 27 seasons from 1988 to 2015. Since stepping away from the booth, Roth launched the sports media and analytics program at Virginia Tech’s School of Communications. After the departure of Jon Laaser earlier this year, Virginia Tech is bringing Roth back and his old broadcast partner is looking forward to the reunion in the fall.

“It’s going to be fantastic because Bill’s right across campus anyway teaching those classes. We worked together for 27 years and it’s like a pretty well-oiled machine. We had a great time and great chemistry so I think it’ll be pretty seamless. Excited about him. I talk to him almost every day. We’re going to do some different things on the pregame. We’re going to do some podcasts. He’s bringing his column back, the Roth report. So a lot of good things happening up there,” said Burnop.

Roth will focus solely on Virginia Tech Football. It was announced Tuesday the recent voice of Montana State athletics in Zach Mackey will be the Hokies new director of broadcasting. Mackey will call Virginia Tech men’s basketball and serve as the sideline reporter for Virginia Tech football broadcasts.
