MARTINSVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — Martinsville High School (MHS) has announced it is evaluating whether games for the remainder of the basketball season will be restricted.

The announcement comes after the Martinsville City Public Schools Administration announced that the MHS basketball game on Wednesday, Jan.18th against Mecklenburg will be restricted.

According to a report, the school is currently only allowing student-athletes, parents of student-athletes, game officials, and school officials in the gym. Parents/guardians attending the basketball game will have to purchase tickets at Martinsville Middle School before the game.

In addition, each basketball player is limited to two tickets and will be required to submit the names of the parents/guardians that will attend the game to the Martinville High School Athletic Director, Mr. Thomas Golding.

Student-athletes on Mecklenburg’s basketball team are allowed to have two parents/guardians attend. Tickets will be made available to buy on game day. Players on the team are also required to submit the names of the parents coming to Mecklenburg’s athletic director before the game.

MCPS said all submissions for their athletes would have to be in by 2 p.m. on game day.

Additional details about why Martinsville High School made this decision is unknown at this time.
